If you have not been here, go. If you haven’t been here in a few years, go again. Berkeley Country Club at Exeter Plantation is located on OLD Highway 52 which runs parallel to New 52 between Goose Creek and Moncks Corner. Just plug it into your GPS or bust out Map Quest. You will find it’s an easy trip from North Charleston, Summerville, Goose Creek and Moncks Corner. If you’re coming from further points, you will still find it an easy ride. It seems long going out, if you don’t know where you are going, but the trip home will seem much shorter.

Crowfield Golf and Country Club is one of Charleston area’s most unique public golf courses. Nowhere else in the lowcountry can you find a golf course with undulating greens and fairways like the ones that adorn Crowfield.
I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I played The Plantation Course at Edisto Beach.
Originally opened in 1974 as Oristo, this dream of David Lybrand, has had a storied past. Lybrand and a group of friends and associates all worked on the course, driving bulldozers and clearing the land themselves. Donald O’Connor, a friend of Lybrand’s drafted the original land plan and Tom Jackson was brought in to do the course design. Jackson actually drove a small bulldozer and pointed out where to drop the fill as he designed the greens. When the course was opened and ready for play a helicopter brought in the first players, Sam Snead, Bob Goalby and Chuck Matlock.
This is one of my favorite assignments- I get to write about Legend Oaks Golf Club.
Whenever one of my buddies suggest we play there, my eyes light up and I can hardly wait to go. Just the drive in to the course fills me with excitement and I never cease to be amazed by its natural southern beauty. As I make my way through an avenue of 250 year old oak trees onto Legend Oaks Way, I almost expect to see Scarlett O’Hara and Tara, but something even better appears instead.
Don’t let the gate slow you down. As far as I can see, the only issue with Coosaw Creek is the gate you have to stop at before you gain entry into this neighborhood course. When you arrive at the gate, all you have to do is announce that you’re a golfer and access will be granted. Then you can make the short drive to the Coosaw Creek Club house. At the club house you’ll find a spacious dining area, bar and restaurant offering a broad menu that features quintessential golf course fare as well as fine dining options served up on crisp white table cloths.
Dunes West Golf Course - A Traditional Southern Masterpiece
After you make a left and go through the guard gate on Wando Plantation Way and you make your way down through the 200 year old moss covered oaks, the antebellum inspired club house at Dunes West Golf Club will majestically appear. Located on the site of historic Lexington Plantation, it is not surprising to know that the property was once owned by royalty. You will immediately be captured by the area’s legendary Southern charm. Although situated in a home community in Mount Pleasant, it has the feel of a course where the only thing around you is golf, houses never come into play. You may see a house through the woods but you will not find a row of white stakes just inches off the cart path. The Bermuda covered dunes and Spanish moss laden oaks will take you away from the rest of the world.
