Bishop England High School Takes 2nd in AA State Bishop England High School Boys Varsity Golf Team took 2nd place in the South Carolina AA Golf Championship held May 14-15 at Indian River Golf Club in West Columbia, SC. Bishop England shot rounds of 306-308 for a total of 614 (+38) to take second place, just four shots behind champion Pendleton High School at 610 (+34), and a full eighteen shots in front of 3rd place finisher Central High School at 628 (+52). Bishop England had three players named to the All-State Team. Named to the team and leading the way for Bishop were Jeremy Grab and Patrick Ging both shooting 151 (+7). Also named to the team was Todd Fanning at 152 (+8). Bishop England had a very successful season, including a win at the Panther Invitational and the inaugural Tournament of Champions, which they hosted at the Daniel Island Club.

Fort Dorchester Ties for 5th in AAAA State Fort Dorchester High School Boys Varsity Golf Team tied for 5th place in the South Carolina AAAA Golf Championship held May 14-15, 2012 at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, SC. The championship is contested over two days of golf, including a grueling 36 holes on the first day. Fort Dorchester entered the tournament as defending champions, having won their first state championship in 2011. Fort won their 5th Region Championship in a row this year, played at The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation, where RJ Keur was low medalist. Fort finished runner up to South Aiken High School in their Lower State Qualifier played at Sunset Country Club in Sumter before heading to state. The Patriots fired rounds of 318-309-311 for a team total of 938 (+74) to tie for 5th with TL Hanna High School. RJ Keur led the way in scoring for the Patriots shooting 76-73-77 for a total of 226 (+10). Senior Grant Waggoner followed close behind shooting 78-74-78 for a total of 230 (+14). Also in the field for the Patriots were Thomas Ellenburg at 236 (+20), Deej Elder at 253 (+37) and Sam Ponte who played two of the rounds and shot 165 (+13). This ends a very successful year for the Patriots, which included winning the Low Country Classic at The Plantation Course at Edisto for the second straight year. Ashley Ridge High School finished the tournament and tied for 10th place with a team score of 948 (+84). Connor O’Rourke led the way in scoring, shooting 79-71-75 for a total of 225 (+9), just two shots short of making the All-State Team. Also, in the field for the Swamp Foxes were Zak Butt at 235 (+19), Riley O’Rourke at 240 (+24), Ben Crimminger at 251 (+35), Aaron Schmitt who played two rounds at 170 (+18), and Shuler Cotton who played one round at 89 (+17). Wando High School finished the tournament in 12th place with a team score of 950 (+86). Chandler Sease led the way in scoring for Wando with a score of 79-74-78 for a total of 231 (+15). Also in the field for Wando were Christian Sease at 235 (+19), Jackson Moore at 236 (+20), Mason Thurber at 248 (+32), David Glasgow who played two rounds at 158 (+14), and Malcolm Claxton who played one round at 87 (+15). Easley High School won the championship with a score of 897 (+33); a full 11 shots in front of second place Blythewood High School at 908 (+44). South Aiken finished in 3rd place with a 922 (+58) and Riverside High School finished in 4th place with a 925 (+61). Matt Neismith, of North Augusta, won Individual Medalist Honors firing rounds of 69-69-70 for a total of 208 (-8), eight shots in front of second place finisher, Trace Crowe of Easley, at 216 even par.
